THE COILED LEGEND OF THE BAY. THE EYE IN THE WAVE. THE SERPENT THAT WATCHES SHORE.
Off the rocky Massachusetts coast, sailors and fishermen have long told of an enormous sea serpent slithering through the waves — a creature over 100 feet long, with a horse-like head, ridged back, and undulating body that cuts through harbor fog like a blade.
In 1817, the town of Gloucester became the epicenter of sightings. Witnesses swore to its presence. Sketches were made. Even the Linnaean Society launched an investigation. But as quickly as it appeared, the serpent vanished… or perhaps just sank deeper.
Since then, it resurfaces from time to time — spotted by lobstermen, tourists, and the occasional Coast Guard report. The Gloucester Sea Serpent remains a slithering anomaly of the Atlantic, impossible to predict and harder to deny.
If the ocean goes still and you feel watched — it’s not the gulls.
